Taipei, Oct. 10 (CNA) Taiwan's first lady Chow Mei-ching appeared in a dress by a young Taiwanese designer, at the National Day celebration in front of the Presidential Office in Taipei Friday morning.

The knee-length fitted black dress, designed by 24-year-old Austin Wu, featured a boat neckline, half-length sleeves and a floral pattern in pink and green curving upward from the hemline.

The outfit was completed with black low-heel pumps and sheer black stockings. In keeping with her low-key personal style, the first lady wore no jewelry or other accessories.

At the Presidential Office, she and President Ma Ying-jeou greeted foreign dignitaries who are in Taiwan for the Republic of China's 103rd anniversary celebrations.

According to a source, Chow will wear another Wu design at the National Day reception later in the day at Taipei Guest House as part of her efforts to give greater exposure to emerging Taiwanese designers.

Wu, a graduate of Shih Chien University's Department of Fashion Design, was the only designer from Taiwan to present a collection at New York Fashion Week in February.

He established his own brand Austin W. in 2011, featuring simplicity and the neutral futuristic color of gray, according to the brand's Facebook page.

Wu's designs have also been showcased at fashion weeks in Tokyo and Beijing and are worn by local celebrities such as Paulian Lan, Matilda Tao and Ariel Lin, and by U.S. pop diva Lady Gaga, the Facebook page said.
